Our Classrooms

Nurturing Environment

Here at the North Haven Child Development Center, children learn with engaging materials in our age-appropriate classrooms. Our classroom spaces encourage exploration, investigation and discovery in a home-like atmosphere and are designed to promote social skills, achievement, help stimulate growth and development, and encourage their self expression. You can rest easy knowing that your child is happy, safe and well cared for in our center’s clean, secure and nurturing learning environments.

  • Our Center offers children and families the unique opportunity to develop strong relationships with caregivers by participating in a mixed age group setting. This means that infants and toddlers remain in the same environment for extended periods of times. Infants remain in the same space for 0-18 months, toddlers 18 months-36 months and preschool 3-5 years old. Our kindergarten program is a mix of children ages 4-6 years old.

  • Our center uses ITERS and ECERS rating scales to provides high quality learning environments. These tools are used to effectively design classroom space, develop positive interactions and experiences for children as they meet developmental milestones as well as look at the overall program structure.

  • Age appropriate, high-quality learning environment for children to grow and play. Our center is licensed by the State of Connecticut and adheres to strict health and safety practices and high quality standards.

  • Our low teacher-to-student ratios allow teachers to focus on the individual learning styles and needs of each child in our center. Each classroom has two full-time teachers and a part-time teacher.

  • We want our space to not only have a classroom feel, but also a feeling of home. In doing so, each child’s unique strengths are taken into consideration as they are nurtured, loved and intentionally stimulated to reach full potential during each developmental milestone.

  • Our center has one Infant classroom with a maximum of 6 infants and two full time teachers allowing for a 1:3 ratio. Two Toddler classrooms with a maximum group size of 8 children in each for a 1:4 ratio. In addition, our Preschool classroom has a maximum group size of 14 children with two full-time teachers for a 1:7 ratio. Our Kindergarten classroom has a maximum of 10 children with one full-time teacher. Our small classroom sizes allows children the 1:1 attention they deserve at such a young age.

  • High quality care in a warm, loving and nurturing environment for infants and toddlers.

  • Full day, full year preschool experience for children ages three to five, or Prekindergarten.

  • Hands-on curriculum taught by a certified teacher with flexibility to address all learning styles.

“We see how early childhood experiences are so important to lifelong outcomes, how the early environment literally becomes embedded in the brain and changes its architecture.”
